One week before I say goodbye to air conditioning and electricity (mostly).. Can't wait.
The Channel Islands are a chain of islands not too far off the coast of Santa Barbara and look incredible. However boat rides can be very tough to get, and expensive. I'm giving serious thought to kayaking out to the eastern-most island of Anacapa (12 miles off the coast) and camping in the national park there. I probably won't do it unless I can find someone else, or a group of others to go with. If I can't find a group, I will likely ferry out to an island, camp out, and kayak between the chain.
The Route
I plan on completing my entire trek via camping (with the exception of a couple days with my folks in Vail, CO). I'll start out in west texas, then New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Grand Canyon, and then to southern California. From there I will migrate up the pacific coast, camping out along the way. California is where I will spend the majority of my time. I will likely visit Oregon afterwards and perhaps Washington (provided I haven't gone completely nutty by then). I myself will be interested to see what my limits are with a venture like this. A graphical representation of the route is below (and very subject to change) - click to view a larger image.
