Around July of '07 my marriage of 7 years came to an end.. That's a whole unbelievable (literally) blog in itself, but the point is that I've always been intrigued by interesting travels. As a programmer, I work remote and as long as I've got cel and internet connectivity with my wireless broadband card, I'm good to go. Ultimately I would like to backpack through Europe, but first, I'm taking a smaller trek out west to get a little experience with travels of larger magnitude (view my route at the right of this page). This site will be a place for me to chronicle my travels, leave some photos, and jot down any interesting things that happen that I might one day forget.

Grand Canyon - North Rim

Friday, September 9, 2007 9:30PM - The top of the North Rim of the canyon is mostly forest. You can go to an edge however and see some quite spectacular views - which I did for the sunset. Eating a stew right now and preparing to descend the Grand Canyon tomorrow.. I'm a bit nervous about it to be honest. I've hiked in Colorado, but nothing like this. I will descend 4,241 feet, taking 6.8 miles of rough terrain and an average of a 21% decline to do so. A Boston marathon runner recently died from dehydration doing this. Also, temperatures at the bottom are generally in excess of 100 degrees right now.

Nice sunset.

Dora and I drove there one May but it was not open yet due to late snow. We looked off the edge but I had a hangnail so we backed up.
